M+R work internationally to create large scale site-specific artwork. Their projects have been reviewed as ‘groundbreaking’ by the Arts Council and received high profile critical acclaim including an International Civic Trust Award. The studio is a collaboration between artists Neil Musson and Jono Retallick who trained at the Royal College of Art and Winchester School of Art respectively. The duo share a desire to see artistic stories woven into architecture and public spaces to enhance a sense of community and belonging.
‘Migration’ explores the displacement of communities across international borders and the way in which they are viewed and categorised. 4000 reflective elements will flow through the grounds. The work was initially inspired by a miniature mechanical elephant made by Faberge, owned by King George V and exhibited at Compton Verney. M+R imagined it, let by its animal instincts, starting its migration through the grounds of this grand house. The installation is activated by participants using torches to illuminate their individual viewpoints.
