Yaz Jenkins is a trained performer, writer and workshop facilitator originally from Oxford, having studied at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. Her spoken word poetry has a strong focus on rhyme and rhythm but usually breaking structural norms. Her work is inspired by her chronic pain and disability, human connection and the idea of finding your own way in the world. Her work is raw, open and also funny at times.
Her poem ‘Bubbles’ was played on the BBC Upload radio show. She was a headliner for the first ‘Lexicon Lounge’ poetry night in London, as well as supporting the poet John Hegley at the ‘Do you remember the verse time’ poetry night in Oxford. She has ran a number of poetry workshops, including a mindful poetry session at the Oxford Di-Verse Festival 2024, where she also performed in the closing showcase. This year she is performing at the Uncanny Valley Festival and she is very excited to make her debut at Greenbelt!
