Richard Brooks

Shipping Translated
The global transportation of produce, goods and waste by increasingly large container ships, and containers moving around the world concealing their contents from general view, demonstrates our mutual interdependence. To underline this interconnectedness and interdependence, this entire work was recorded at the UK s largest container port, Felixstowe, during Lent 2014.

Assimilation (games)
Is a black and white photograph of a corner of woodland – perhaps a place of sanctuary, perhaps a place more sinister – superimposed with a game of noughts and crosses in raw red paint. It is a graphically arresting image, the red marks complicating the image below and making us think of how we each get caught and tangled in the machinations of our own minds.

“Art as prophetic voice” is core to Richard’s practice. His work, informed by his faith, sense of vulnerability, bereavement, and his personal experience, centres on addressing social justice issues of the human condition.
