The Book of Joshua seems to say the conquest of Canaan was commanded by God, to be achieved by violence. Would the Creator of all really want the slaughter of indigenous peoples? Can we read these and similar texts with new eyes? Mary Grey explores the text to find reconciliation and understanding.

Mary Grey is an ecofeminist theologian. She is a visiting professor at St Mary’s University College and an honorary professor at the University of Winchester. She is also a founding trustee of Wells for India and a patron of Dalit Solidarity UK, the Catherine of Siena Virtual College and Friends of Sabeel UK.
