Global poverty: from charity to justice?

 

We live in a world where more people have access to a mobile phone than a toilet, and we are desperate to respond. But is aid the solution the world requires? This talk suggest that the focus of poverty alleviation needs to shift from charity to justice, and in the process address the root causes of poverty found in our global economic structures.

Justin Thacker is lecturer in practical and public theology at Cliff College, Derbyshire. He is a former medical doctor who has worked in international development, primarily in East and West Africa. He is the author of Global Poverty: A Theological Guide (SCM Press, 2017).
