Language by gift and necessity is dualistic (distinguishing this from that) and metaphorical (it is pointing to the thing, but is not itself the thing). Jesus understood that much better than we do, which is why the word had to become flesh. He began his many descriptions of the kingdom with the same honest phrase “it is like”. How we can interpret scripture the way Jesus interpreted scripture?
