We know that for many, the Eurovision Song Contest finals night is an annual party gathering designed to celebrate just how music can bring we Europeans together. Or just a downright kitsch and good fun excuse for a big ol’ party. Because, behind the often-terrible fashion, tunes and lyrics, it’s an event that celebrates our diversity and brings us together.
The fly in the ointment, from our point of view, is that this year the contest is being staged in Tel Aviv. Now, every city and country that has ever played host to the contest over the years will have had their issues. But because of the work that we’ve done for a long time now to bring you artists, activists, peacemakers and thinkers from Israel-Palestine to the festival – and to tell the story of those living behind the walls and barricades (Palestinians) as well as those living in front of them (Israelis) – we feel duty-bound to point you in the direction of an alternative.
That’s why, this Saturday (18th May, at 9pm CEST), we’ll be tuning into GlobalVision – and we hope you might do the same. GlobalVision will be showcasing some of the best Palestinian music and comedy, premiering material from internationally renowned artists and getting into the glammest most glittery moments in Eurovision history with a live audience.
GlobalVision will be entertaining you for the entire Eurovision Finale. Yes, the whole four hours! And we’ll be streaming the event live on our Facebook page here.
Globalvision will provide a stage for Palestinian artists to shine, and for Israeli and global Eurovision fans to join them in saying: no to art-washing, no to occupation, and yes to human rights and dignity for all.
