Family Gaming At Greenbelt

Family Gaming At Greenbelt

A guest blog from Andy Robertson

If you’re packing for Greenbelt, don’t forget your smartphone. In drop-in sessions (Saturday and Monday, 9-11am in the new Telescope venue) we’ll have loads of unusual and inspiring ways for you to use it.

Top of the bill is an amazing game called Bury Me My Love. I spoke to the game’s creator today (Monday, 20th August) for this exclusive Greenbelt interview.

As I said in my previous blog, it only takes a few minutes a day to play, and invites you to take part in a story about a Syrian woman (Nour) trying to travel to Europe. Experience first hand these difficult journeys. Every time you play it your interactions will create a different route and outcome.

Download the and play game before you head off. Maybe play it on the way. Then bring it to the sessions to see how your journey compared to other peoples. I’ll look forward to seeing how you get on, and will have loads of other games for you to try next.

We’ll also be talking about the challenges of video games for parents in light of the new World Health Organisation Gaming Disorder. I’ll have practical advice and tips on how to steer your children to gaming health.

Here’s all the video games sessions:

SATURDAY
09:00 – 11:00: Kaleidoscope
Come and discover video games you’ll want to play, together. Bring smartphones and Bury Me My Love if you’ve played it, or borrow ours.

14:30: Taming Gaming Disorder, Fortnite and Faith
Worried about the games your child plays? This is a light-hearted, informative guide to what screentime and video games are doing to children, and how their gaming could be steered towards fulfilling, connecting, affordable and even spiritual experiences.

SUNDAY

19:00: PlayStation Joust Championships
Come and play our unusual PlayStation game outside on the lawn. Players put on a light-show of competitive movement, dance and sometimes gentle pushing. Register your team of four with @geekdadgamer (07540 717270) ahead of time.
