This double Oscar-winning film has ‘future classic’ written all over it and deserves a second (or third! or fourth!) viewing. The opening sequence introduces us to Carl Fredricksen as he meets, woos, marries and lives an entire life with the lovely Ellie. Alone again, with most of the film’s running time remaining, Carl does what any of us would do, and rigs out his home with thousands of balloons before taking to the skies and heads to Paradise Falls, a dream that never quite came true. A knock at the door, mid-air, introduces us to his Boy Scout travel companion Russell, fleeing troubles of his own. Their adventures south of the border land on the right side of surreal, with a scene-stealing talking dog and dopey rare bird providing a strong supporting cast. This is a film which will have you bursting with laughter while you’re still drying your eyes. A real treat for all ages and bona fide must-see.
