Christian Aid: Campaign update

Christian Aid: Campaign update

A blog from our partner Christian Aid

As the autumn nights draw in Greenbelt 2018 is starting to seem like a distant memory for many of us. Christian Aid had an amazing time and we were delighted and inspired by how many of you joined our campaign to raise the issue of the lack of international support for people displaced within their own borders, with the UK Government.

The UK Government can’t solve an international problem alone but is still an influential voice.

Since Greenbelt, thanks to your pressure, the UK Government has been advocating for a Global High-Level Panel to come up with solutions for internal displacement. We expect the creation of this Panel to happen soon and are waiting for an announcement.

It is also beginning its own Parliamentary inquiry into forced displacement in Africa which we are actively engaging with.  Thanks to you we are seeing real movements that can lead to better lives for some of the world’s most vulnerable people.

There’s still a lot of work to do, which is why we’ll continue to advocate to ensure the processes are right and that the right solutions are identified and implemented.

We’ve recently handed in our petition to the Prime Minister, but you can still support people on the move by….

  1. Praying for people forced from their homes.
  2. Host an uprooted exhibition in your church/community (contact your local Christian Aid office for details) to help raise awareness.
  3. Donate to Christian Aid to help us continue to advocate for the rights of all displaced people.

You can also join our movement of campaigners and encourage friends and family to do the same, by signing up here.
