Pip Mountjoy

Pip Mountjoy

Pip Mountjoy is a 21 year old, folk-pop singer songwriter from Yorkshire. Championed by BBC Introducing, she has toured extensively, from the most intimate back rooms of the UK folk circuit to major festivals such as Glastonbury, Isle of Wight & Cambridge Folk, supporting the likes of Ryan Adams, John Smith and Slow Club, leaving audiences “simultaneously entertained, depressed, amused, bemused and delighted”.

There is a subtlety to Pip’s acoustic guitar and haunting vocals that captivates. She describes her writing as ‘confessional poetry’, her lyrics evoke powerful themes of nature, a fervent wanderlust, as well as the human tragedies of loss, heartbreak and the experience of being out of place in a hostile world; all with a healthy side of sarcasm and dark British humour. Channelled into her live performance, this poetry achieves a more emotional resonance: raw, painfully honest and sung with a beauty that justifies those frequent comparisons to Laura Marling.

Ask about influences, and you’ll hear the names of Ryan Adams and The Tallest Man on Earth, alongside staples from the US alt-folk scene Okkervil River, The Avett Brothers, Bon Iver, and Shakey Graves. But Pip’s music carries an identity all of its own, her on-stage humour and enchanting vocals come together with powerful lyrics in a unique talent.
