Philip Akello

Philip Akello is the Climate Justice Policy and Advocacy Advisor for Africa at Christian Aid.

He holds a Bachelor of science degree in Agricultural Engineering and a Master of science degree in Energy Technology and has more than 10 years of experience in climate change and energy programme and project design and implementation. He has experience working with vulnerable households and communities, building resilience to climate change, while promoting adoption of low-carbon technologies.

He brings in wealth of experience working with government agencies, private sector, civil society and strategic stakeholders in development of energy and climate-smart policies, sector strategies and plans. Among his notable roles in the technical and advocacy space includes his appointment by Kenya’s Minister of Environment as a member of the national taskforce that developed Kenya’s National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP 2018-2022).

Globally, Philip has been an International Observer to the Climate Investment Funds, where he represented Africa at the Strategic Climate Fund (SCF) Committee and the Scaling-Up Renewable Energy Programme (SREP) Sub-Committee.
