Matthew Martin is an analyst of and advocate for better financing to fight the global crises of inequality/poverty and climate/nature.
He played a key role in getting US$100 billion of debt cancelled by the poorest countries in the 2000s, and his latest report to the UN Secretary General shows how to end the worst ever global debt crisis, and save US$1 trillion a year in debt service by to spend on global development.
He is Executive Director of Development Finance International, which provides advice, analysis and capacity-building to countries of the global South on these issues, and runs the Debt Service Watch, Commitment to Reducing Inequality and Government Spending Watch programmes.
He is a member of the International Panel on Inequality Advisory Group, and a former board member of Oxfam GB and South Africa as well as of New Rules for Global Finance in Washington.
