Frederique Seidel

Frederique Seidel is the Senior Programme Lead for Children and Climate at the World Council of Churches.

She conceptualised and co-authored resources for an acceleration of climate solutions as an essential child protection measure, such as Cooler Earth – Higher Benefits: Actions by those who care about children, climate and finance and Hope for Children Through Climate Justice.

Seidel previously worked in various countries for UNICEF, as a Deputy Representative, Child Rights Education Programme Manager, Communication Specialist and Head of Field Office.

Earlier she served as a spokesperson for the UN and the OSCE in the post-war Balkans and as a journalist for Deutsche Welle TV in Germany.

Frederique Seidel promotes capacity building for climate-responsible finance as powerful and vital measure for child protection, addressing root-causes of global warming. Her initiative for intergenerational climate justice was awarded with the Keeling Curve Prize in 2019.

Seidel holds a master’s degree of Sociology from the Sorbonne and Freie Universität Berlin and specialized in Educational Science and International Relations at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris.

Her research focuses on the moral imperative for climate-responsible banking and pension fund choices is published by Springer Nature.

She co-authored research on global warming as a driver of violence against children, published by The Lancet and the international review “Child Abuse & Neglect”.
