Foraging with Miles Irving

Wild food author Miles Irving has been writing, speaking & teaching on the topic of wild food for over fifteen years.

His book The Forager Handbook was published by Ebury Press in 2009 and is considered to be one of the ‘must-haves’ for budding and experienced foragers alike.

He is the founder and director of wild food supply company Forager Ltd which serves high end restaurants & consults with chefs & bar tenders throughout the UK. He has also recently launched a wild food box scheme called the WildBox which won the highly acclaimed GREAT BRITISH FOOD AWARD 2018 .

He hosts the WorldWild Podcast connecting foragers, foodies and philosophers from around the world. His travels in the world of wild food and in search of further knowledge have taken him to the depths of the Brazilian rainforest & the outback with indigenous communities in Australia.

Miles has led foraging workshops at Kew Gardens, the MAD symposium (organised by NOMA in Denmark) in Denmark, & The World Food Summit 2017 for the minister of Agriculture and Rene Redzepi & for many of the top restaurants across the country (Dinner by Heston, Hix group, Restaurant Flat Three to name a few). He has been featured in the BBC 4 Food
Programme, The Telegraph, Observer Food Monthly, The Financial Times, New York Times & Herald Tribune & is regularly sought out for his wisdom on a wide range of current ecological issues pertaining to our place as humans in the wild and the emerging future of food production and supply.

Miles is convinced that the biggest factor in our current ecological crisis is people’s disconnection from landscapes and wild ecosystems, therefore the most urgent task is re -connection. Since food is the most direct means through which this can be accomplished, Miles is exploring the edible possibilities of the wild as a “route back into a functional niche within wild ecosystems for humans.”
