Andrew Graystone

Andrew is a middle-aged, middle class, white Christian man who was brought up not to make a fuss. He is also a storyteller and a Greenbelt regular.

He is a writer, journalist, teacher, broadcaster and provocateur…or as his mother puts it, he can’t hold down a proper job. He used to work for the church. And for the BBC.

In recent years he has walked with women and men who have been abused in church contexts, completed a doctorate looking at sex robots as an example of the transformation of the body in digital culture, and written the devastating book Bleeding For Jesus, which tells the story of the prolific abuser John Smyth.

Andrew has also written and produced the Greenbelt Festival Communion services from 2016 onward at Boughton House (with a brief break in 2019), also authoring the workbook we will be releasing at the 2026 festival about what we have learned in doing these services, called Treasure in a Field.
