Trying to create an act of worship, one that a whole field of people can feel part of, is no small task. But it’s a challenge we gratefully accept every August, when the whole festival stops and we gather to worship together on Sunday morning.
To mark our final year at Boughton, we’ve gathered lots of the thinking, materials, ideas and hard-won lessons from our last ten Communion gatherings into a new book, Treasure in a Field.
Written by Andrew Graystone, with a foreword by Greenbelt Creative Director Paul Northup, it explores some of our theological thinking about the act of communion: why we worship as we do, what we’ve learned, where it really works (and where we’ve occasionally tried a little too hard).
There are practical thoughts on things like the language used or how to involve children, but it isn’t a blueprint. It’s more an invitation to borrow, adapt and create something rooted in your own street, community, and church.
