MICHAEL SHEEN is a multi-award-winning Welsh actor and RADA graduate, known for his extensive work across film, TV and theatre, as well as his charity work.
His extensive film credits include David Frost in Ron Howard’s FROST/NIXON; Tony Blair in Stephen Frears’ THE QUEEN; Tim Burton’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND; Woody Allen’s MIDNIGHT IN PARIS; Lucian in the UNDERWORLD franchise; Aro in THE TWILIGHT SAGA; APOSTLE (Netflix); Thomas Vinterberg’s critically acclaimed adaptation of FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD; THE DAMNED UNITED; and Simon Pegg’s SLAUGHTERHOUSE RULEZ. His Christmas feature LAST TRAIN TO CHRISTMAS was nominated for a National Film Award for Best Comedy. He will be seen later this year in Kenneth Branagh’s THE LAST DISTURBANCE OF MADELINE HYNDE.
Michael’s numerous TV credits include THE SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP (HBO), in which he reprised the role of Tony Blair; Dr. Bill Masters in four seasons of the acclaimed Showtime series MASTERS OF SEX, Adrian Shergold’s DIRTY FILTHY LOVE; Andy De Emmony’s KENNETH WILLIAMS: FANTABULOSA!, for which he won the RTS award for Best Actor; Aziraphale in the adaptation of GOOD OMENS (Amazon), with David Tennant, for which he will return for its third season; PRODIGAL SON (Fox); and Chris Tarrant in Stephen Frears’ QUIZ (ITV/AMC), opposite Matthew Macfadyen and Sian Clifford, which became ITV’s most-watched TV drama of 2020; STAGED (BBC) with David Tennant; and BBC’s BEST INTERESTS written by Jack Thorne, which was nominated for a 2024 RTS Award for Limited Series and a 2024 BAFTA TV Award for Limited Drama. He was recently leading opposite Ruth Wilson in the three-part Amazon Prime series A VERY ROYAL SCANDAL.

Michael is a four time Olivier nominated actor for AMADEUS at the Old Vic, LOOK BACK IN ANGER at the NT, CALIGULA and FROST/NIXON both at the Donmar Warehouse. Other notable roles include the title roles in HENRY V at the RSC, HAMLET at the Young Vic and NYE at the NT . He played Salieri in AMADEUS at the Royal Opera House Sydney’s majestic 50th anniversary production to great acclaim.
He can be seen in his documentary, MICHAEL SHEEN’S SECRET MILLION POUND GIVEAWAY (Channel 4), which highlights how he bought and wrote off £1million-worth of ordinary people’s debt in Wales.
In 2011 Michael created, co-directed, and performed in the ground-breaking three-day live event THE PASSION IN PORT TALBOT for National Theatre Wales.
He has launched the new WELSH NATIONAL THEATRE as its Artistic Director and unveiled the debut season announcing Thornton Wilder’s OUR TOWN which has received numerous 5* reviews. OWAIN AND HENRY will be the second production in autumn 2026.
