Dub Colossus

Dub Colossus

Simon Partington

Dub Colossus was the vision of producer and musician Nick Page, aka Dubulah. From the outset, the project was about collaboration with a wide selection of musicians and musical styles. The first album was based on a trip to Addis Ababa and featured an array of Ethiopian musicians and that influence has been a recurring theme. Nick, who worked with a long list of notable artists and eccentrics throughout his career, passed in 2021 leaving an unfinished album, which a group of collaborators has now completed. It is both a celebration and a continuation of Nick’s work.

Nick had a gift for bringing people together and the live show celebrates what Nick brought to each of the collaborators on this new album. Music, friendship and love. The line-up includes Dub Colossus stalwarts Ben Somers, Paul Chivers (aka Ramjac) and Toby Mills, all of whose musical input can be found sprinkled across the albums, from A Town Called Addis through to Dr Strangedub.

Original vocalist Sintayehu ‘Mimi’ Zenebe is back and spreads Nick’s love of Ethiopian music throughout the tracks, and this time newcomer to the band Holly Holden joins her. In a final nod to the beginnings of Nick’s contribution to the UK music scene, Tim
Whelan and Hamid Mantu, bandmates and co-founders of Transglobal Underground with Nick, complete the line-up.

The band invite you to come and join in this celebration of music and togetherness during the live show, a journey through myriad influences where Ethio-jazz meets the thrumming basslines of dub.

Dub Will Keep Us Together.
