El Gruer

From the Scottish Highlands, El is a full-time poet and performance poet whose art creates a completely unique experience. Pushing all poetic boundaries she has the ability to put into words the unspoken moments of speechlessness that we all experience. Her spoken word brings breath into both the humourous everyday and the mind-bending aspects of truth. . . ‘El can convey a whole library of theology books in just a matter of syllables.’

El’s first performance tour, ‘The Bride and the Alarm Clock’, which tackled the relationship between identity and eternity saw one young woman’s step of faith become an international success. El has spent the last 12 months sharing with thousands of people, in countless venues, appearing from a wedding in the USA to an Irish community centre, from a children’s hospital in England to a Theological College in Scotland, she makes poetry accessible and digestible for all. She has become known as ‘The People’s Poet’ as she gives voice to all footsteps of culture and challenges our thoughts on every issue of the human heart.

‘As God has freely given us grace it is my heart to freely share with people. The tour idea began with the heartbeat that if I could get to the place and they could put me up then I would come and share, and that is how it continues. This ministry began through God’s provision through donations and continues in the fullness of that. I am blessed not to earn a living but to receive a living.’

Greenbelt 2012 will see the launch of her greatly anticipated new tour.
