Access Team

Greenbelt is held each year on Cheltenham racecourse. As you can imagine a racecourse is not necessarily the most accessible place and that’s basically the role of access team - to make the racecourse more accessible.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for people who have personal or professional experience of working with disabled people or who are disabled themselves.
These could include people who are: Occupational Therapists, SEN Teachers, people who are related to a disabled people, Direct Payment Workers etc.
Volunteers on this team need to be committed to helping disabled festival goers and their families and friends to access the festival and to supporting other volunteers when they have problems or questions.

What do we do?

Our first main task is to welcome people arriving in the disabled campsite on the Friday. This includes ensuring people have booked in and know where is a good spot for them to camp.
You need initiative, a friendly manner and to be able to solve problems quickly. It is desirable for you to be able to get around the campsite easily
Our next main task is to be available throughout the festival to make it accessible, this could be anything from listening to a parent of a child with special needs who has had a difficulty in the festival to assisting at the wheelchair charging station. We are currently establishing exactly what the shift pattern will be and the exact roles and will update this page accordingly.
You need to be patient, empathetic, a good listener and willing to support people to resolve problems they have.
Another area we help with is with a daily meet up for people on the Autistic Spectrum (AS). If you are interested in volunteering in this area you will be required to support the AS meet up coordinator with welcoming people who attend, help with games or conversations. This is a great place for you to help if you have experience of working with people with AS.

What will be expected of volunteers?

A large part of the role is on the Friday so we need volunteers to be able to arrive on Thursday afternoon.
There will be a team meeting on the Thursday evening and volunteer induction events to attend as well.
You will be expected to be around for much of the Friday (until at least 7pm). Then there will be shifts throughout the weekend however we will endeavour to be flexible so that you can enjoy the festival too.
Interested? Then apply! Please make sure you outline your experience in this area, thanks - we look forward to hearing from you!
