In October 2007 Visions and York Minster began to work on an Ancient-Future version of the communion service; mixing ancient melodies from professional choristers with future ambience and combining Anglican liturgy with creative prayer journeys through an ancient building.
Transcendence could be compared to taking a medieval building, the communion liturgy, some beautiful singers, some robes, processions, multisensory prayer activities and a huge pile of incense, sticking them in a blender and seeing what comes out. Since 2007 the congregation has grown rapidly and a huge variety of visitors have come from near and far, pilgrims from other churches, spiritual seekers and people looking for something a little deeper in life.
