Royksopp

at Greenbelt 2009: Standing in the Long Now

Saturday

MTV Video Music Award-winning Norwegian electronic duo who have recently notched up their third consecutive UK Top 30 spot with third studio album, Junior.

Their bouncy, ambient, trippy electronica is pretty much the soundtrack to the noughties. If you think you haven't heard them, you've probably been walking round with a bag on your head for the past decade.

Royksopp are two unassuming Norwegians who are massive names in electronic music. They've rocked Glastonbury and toured with Basement Jaxx and Moby; topped the UK dance charts; won MTV awards and been nominated for Brit Awards; and performed remix duties for one or two big names such as Coldplay, The Streets and Beck.

They brought out their first album, Melody A.M., in 2001. Seminal single Eple is the very definition of a songworm: once it burrows into your head you'll never get it out. It's the one with the instrumental line that sounds like the Clangers that goes doodle oodle doodle oodle and just makes you want to dance, wherever you are. Click on the YouTube clip below if you need reminding.

Whilst a lot of their work is instrumental, they do make liberal use of guest vocalists, and in fact The Girl And The Robot, the latest single off their third album Junior features the dulcet tones of Swedish singer Robyn.

They're spending summer 2009 delighting audiences around Europe and we're delighted to welcome them to Greenbelt.

Most Excellent Factoid: the band's name, if you believe Wikipedia, is Norwegian for puffball mushroom. Obviously.

"What a comeback. Junior is pretty damn perfect… very few albums will be as enjoyable as this in 2009. Brilliant." - BBC Music.  (For the full review, click the link on the right)
