Sir John Tavener: A Selection of Works

The Greenbelt Festival Orchestra will be playing a selection of works by Sir John Tavener, arguably Britain’s foremost living composer.

Greenbelt Chorus Rehearsals

This year, uniquely, we have arranged pre-Festival rehearsals for a Greenbelt chorus to prepare works by Sir John Tavener, to be performed on the Sunday evening of the Festival.

David Beaman

David Beaman studied violin, piano and composition at The Purcell School before going on to The Royal College of Music where he studied conducting with Neil Thomson. He studied at the Canford ConductingCourse with George Hurst and most recently with Denise Ham, Royal Academy of Music.

Greenbelt Scratch Choir : Craig McLeish

Craig is organising the Greenbelt Scratch Choir. His first visit to Greenbelt was during the storms of 1986 when he failed to get in the Big Top to see Fat and Frantic. A Year later he was performing with them on Mainstage and stayed as bass player until their demise in 1992.

Matthew Forbes

Matthew is the cellist of the Trelawn String Quartet and is also one half of the acclaimed Czardas Duo with accordionist Ian Watson (a previous Greenbelt hit!) with whom he has commissioned four new works from young British composers since 1999 and made several BBC radio broadcasts. As well as the cello, Matthew has worked as a jazz pianist, folk guitarist/mandolin player, conductor, arranger and writer.

Christopher Norton

Christopher Norton is an established composer, arranger, educationalist and producer. Best known for the world-famous Microjazz and Microstyles series, he is universally regarded as the leader in his field. We are delighted to welcome Chris to this years festival where he will be performing on the piano in the cello and piano recital on Fri eve(including his own cello sonata) and also running the scratch orchestra. 

Greenbelt Kids' Choir : Matthew Beckingham

Matthew has recently been appointed as Assistant Conductor of the national Methodist Association of Youth Clubs Orchestra & Singers. He has received many orchestration and arrangement commissions including an arena show as part of MAYC's festival Breakout, and for concerts at a range of venues including Symphony Hall, Birmingham.
