Zaytoun is an ethical community interest company that supports
marginalised farming communities in Palestine, widely regarded as the home of the olive tree.
The olive tree supports over half the populatiion of Palestine and dominates the agricultural landscape. Zaytoun finds a marketplace for Palestinian produce in the UK and works to build support and fair trade links for communities affected by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Many Palestinians rely on the olive harvest for their main source of income. Olive groves make up approximately eighty percent of the arable land in Palestine. With the harvest representing fifty percent of the average family income, olive trees represent a vital source of income that has protected and united Palestinian families for countless generations.
Running deep into the consciousness of a dignified and ancient culture many farming families are now being forced to leave their homes as result of the ongoing Occupation and face great difficulties selling their produce. Together with support from agencies and churches in the UK, Zaytoun envisages a time when Palestine’s ancient olive oil will once again be celebrated throughout the world’s Holy Lands. And, as custodians of this precious gift, they ask that we consider supporting farmers throughout the West Bank and helping Zaytoun work to build a future with dignity.
