In our consumer communities almost everything is becoming a commodity. Justice and mercy are two of the most important characteristics of the Kingdom of God and are becoming commodities to be bought and sold. What is being squeezed out is relationship and connected compassion. Along with this is is an unexpected rise of a new kind of localism in a global reality. How do we make real Jesus's call to love God and others and not be ripped off by a culture that sucks the generosity out of us and sells us compassion?
