Julie Lee

at Greenbelt 2008: Rising Sun

Saturday

Embracing gospel, bluegrass, Maryland jazz and folk roots, Julie Lee has a smooth, lilting voice that gracefully slips across the borders of genre. Assembling melodies and stories like a patchwork quilt, her music is timeless yet vital. Julie grew up in Maryland USA on a steady diet of family stories, jazz and folk music, learning early the connection between history and the creative act. A relocation to Nashville exposed her to the rich heritage of Southern blues, bluegrass and folk music. Julie’s songs have been recorded by Alison Krauss, with whom she has also toured. She’s also been on the road with Vigilantes of Love’s Bill Mallonee and Pierce Pettis. Julie’s latest release, Stillhouse Road, offers a timeless collection of material. Featuring some of the most talented musicians in Nashville, including Alison Krauss, Vince Gill and slide guitar player Colin Linden, Stillhouse Road is a modern classic, incorporating bluegrass, jazz, blues, and folk. And Julie’s not afraid to let her feelings show: whether singing about her family or exploring the deepest implications of faith, each of Julie Lee’s raw, homespun songs carries with it a common thread of a time-tested hope and the possibilities that love can afford. And there are rumours of a new recording coming out soon... In a word: spell-binding
