Rev Dr John Smith is the founding Director of Concern Australia and the founding President of God's Squad Christian Motorcycle Club of 34 years. An elder of the radical discipleship movement, he is a defender of the poor, an ethics consultant to corporate Australia, a prominent social commentator and a blues lover.
He's completed his doctoral studies in Cultural Anthropology at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky on the Jesus Movement as a Revitalisation Movement. John is the author of Advance Australia Where? which won the Australian Religious Book of the Year award in 1988), On the Side of the Angels Revised 2006 and Cutting Edge (1992). 'Smithy' has combined a disciplined study of anthropological and missiological literature with his love of analysing popular Western urban culture. He is unique among Australian scholars. An energetic and engaging teacher with a fund of stories and cultural insights. Married to Glena for 39 years; Paul, Kathy and Lyndal have together produced 14 grandchildren. John is driven by a passion for people and a passion for doing his bit by changing the world by changing people. His love of Jesus is like a fire in his belly.
