Artists Forums

at Greenbelt 2008: Rising Sun

Greenbelt Artists Forums are an excellent opportunity to network with like-minded practitioners and industry professionals.

You can either apply to present and discuss your work or come along on the night to hear the debates. Five artists will show documentation of their artwork each night in a slide show or short film format. The audience will be encouraged to ask questions and share thoughts and hopefully we can help develop bodies of work and the GB Artists community through this informal and supportive programme. Each event could include work by painters, sculptors, installation artists, photographers, filmmakers or interdisciplinary collaborations etc. The work might address moods, marginalised issues, concealed beliefs and identity politics, realism, representation, utopian dreams and the everyday. This years Artists Forums are evening events for established and emerging artists/photographers/filmmakers who do not have access to regular feedback and feel they would benefit from some specialist and peer-led critique of their work. The events provide a chance for artists to experience speaking about their work in public, to articulate concerns, aims and plans for their work and to ask opinions in an open and honest environment. All are welcome to attend, partake in the discussion and see portfolios, new and emerging bodies of work. Feedback from the audience is a vital part of the event, enabling dialogues, peer-to-peer relationships and networks to develop. Format In order to reflect the many disciplines and applications within the visual arts, each Artists Forum will be tailored to explore diverse approaches and practices through a variety of media. A specially chosen artist, curator or other professional known for their interdisciplinary experience, as well as their ability to engage in open and constructive discussion, will Chair each event. Two or Three artists will be selected for each event. Their work may not directly relate either creatively, thematically or conceptually to the background of the Chair or to any of the other participants. The hour long events begin at 8.30pm Friday & Saturday and 8pm on Monday giving all participants approx. 25 minutes to present their work and to engage in a discussion with the Chair and attending audience. Artists Forums will take place in the 'the Hub'. Submission Process The Artists Forums can be used for showcasing portfolios, but are designed more specifically to explore particular theoretical issues pertinent to the processes of individual artists/practitioners. Work will be shown in digital format, projected on each session. To participate in an Artists Forum please read and follow the 'Submissions Policy' carefully or email if you need further information or assistance. We aim to reply individually to each application. If selected you will be informed at least two weeks in advance of the event, if you have not heard by then please assume you have not been successful on this occasion.
