Described as “one of the most exciting crossover funk acts in Britain today” One Nation return to Greenbelt with their global funk sound, blending Latin and jazz with funk and world rhythms.
One Nation originally formed in 1997 in the Leamington and Coventry area. The group quickly established a strong local following with their dynamic funk sound and their legendary impromptu percussion raids at Warwick University. The band regularly sold out gigs at venues in the surrounding area and beyond.
Over the following years the band developed their sound, adding instruments and featuring acclaimed guest vocalists and poets such as Denise Gordon, Sarah Drake and Barry Fitzgerald.
The addition in 2005 of the “stunningly sublime vocals” of Emma Howard saw the nine-piece move into a new era. They have headlined packed-out stages at Greenbelt, opened Coventry’s Jazz Festival, played at YMCA National Assemblies and supported Radio 1’s Gilles Peterson.
Their CDs showcase the talents of the band while their live performances “leave the audience stunned by the group’s musical brilliance and begging for more”. One Nation are winning respect and building a following wherever they play.
