The Filid

The Filid is a collective of religious artists from all over Canada. Half performance, half audience participation, Filid shows are designed as ‘aesthetic interruptions’, hour-long stabs at opening the modern heart for contemplation. Through original music, poetry, dance and visual art, the Filid build a temporary sanctuary, upsetting normal rhythms. The base elements of the Filid (which take different forms in different shows) are liturgical tradition, folk rock, oral storytelling, modern dance, videography, installation art, and shared silence. This summer’s touring Filid is centered around The Voyage of St. Brendan (c. 484-577). His epic journey of trust and obedience is the masthead for the show, which deals with the darkness and mystery of faith in a world of too much certainty.
