Currently a Consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon at Barts and the Royal London Hospital. She was the first woman orthopaedic surgeon to be appointed to these hospitals since their founding several hundred years ago.
A volunteer surgeon in the Pakistan Earthquake and founding member and patron of British Charity Medical Aid for Palestinians.
She worked in Sabra and Shatilla Palestinian refugee camps in Beirut in 1982 and was a witness and survivor of the massacre that year.She was also an orthopaedic consultant to the UN and WHO in the Gaza Strip during the First Palestinian Uprising in 1988-89.
