Linda Ramsden is Director of ICAHD UK which supports the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD); she gets her hands dirty by rebuilding Palestinian homes in defiance of Israel’s occupation and its demolition policy, illegal under international law. As Founder of Experience Travel Tours she has taken 400 internationals on political tours to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including throughout the Second Intifada during periods of high tension.
Linda is originally from Minnesota, USA, and is from a politically Conservative family. While at university, she became involved in the Christian Zionist movement and believed we were living in the last generation before Christ’s return. Linda’s fiercely held charismatic fundamentalist beliefs were challenged when she met a Christian Palestinian. She has made a 180 degree change in her understanding of Israel/Palestine and her life is a story of being saved from a particularly damaging theological position to one which is inclusive, grounded in love and justice with respect for the humanity of each individual.
For the last ten years Linda has promoted interfaith understanding and worked for a just and sustainable peace for both Israelis and Palestinians. Her coalition work includes the Rediscovering Palestine network and the Interfaith Group for Morally Responsible Investment which calls for churches in the UK to divest from companies that profit from Israeli’s occupation of Palestine and instead to invest in the Palestinian economy.
Linda has lived in England since 1973. She and her British husband had three children of their own before adopting a ten year old girl from Romania. Linda was the 2006 winner of the Shelia McKechnie Award in the conflict resolution category. At present she is writing the book of her story for publication.
