Hangman Charlie

Hangman Charlie was formed during a trip to Pizza Hut when friends Ben Judson (vocals/acoustic guitar/rhymes) and Tommy James (electric guitar/vocals) were in their first year at university. A diverse array of songs written in hall bedrooms and student kitchens soon followed.

After a brief search Rich White (drums/vocals) and Bert Bond (bass) joined the duo and the quartet got down to producing their own unique form of Indie / hip-hop / rock. Judson and James’ writing encompasses fluid harmony, soaring melody, poetic lyrics and dynamic energy. White’s solid and thoughtful grooves are enhanced by the funk odyssey that is Bond’s bass playing. They have been steadily gaining a following since their first gig in a smelly, sweaty pub in Oxford. The venue was packed and shortly after the band recorded their first [EP], at VCA Solutions Studios in Devon in May 2006.

Now in their 2nd and 3rd years at Oxford Brookes University, the band are becoming well respected for their live shows in the Oxford region and further afield, thanks to appearances on Oxford Radio and headlining shows at The Zodiac and the Bull & Gate in London.

With initial record label talks and opportunities opening up to perform with top class bands at venues of the highest reputation, the band have a bright future ahead of them. They hope to have a full-length album out by the end of 2007.
