Gordon Ashbridge is a photographer from Belfast, Northern Ireland. His art-work is inspired by the beauty of ordinary places and objects, but believes that these so called mundane things have a deeper philosophical and spiri-tual significance. His recent projects have included ‘the Miracle of Stories and the Mystery‘ and ‘Do You Remember‘ both of them acknowledge the transcendent importance of stories, whether fictional or real and that these stories must be told.
His South African project ‘sad…and beautiful place‘ is a visual journey through the townships of Cape Town, South Africa. The work investigates how the photograph is an aid to remembering the unremembered and chal-lenges our response to the forgotten. Sad and Beautiful Place was his first solo exhibition at Ards Arts Centre, Newtownards and also published as a book in collaboration with writer Steve Stockman. He has exhibited in sev-eral group shows in Northern Ireland and internationally in China and Russia.
