The Church of the Apostles is an emergent new monastic community in Seattle, Washington founded by “Abbess” Karen M. Ward. Jeanette and Ned Olson are long time members and also keepers of “The Hermitage” where for the past three years they have provided retreat to fellow pilgrims and welcomed others to sojourn among the COTA community. They are exploring traditional and innovative practices of prayer and meditation using Anglican Prayer Beads as originally developed by a contemplative prayer group in the 1980’s in the United States. Ned works for AT&T as a Human Factors Engineer and plays mandolin and harmonica for worship services. Jeanette works as an assistant for a consulting economist and enjoys creating unique prayer beads and unique prayers to go with them. They have both served on the COTA Vestry and the Liturgy Guild, participated with Theology Pub and sung in the Easter and Christmas choirs.
