CAST is the Creative Arts Schools Trust. This is actor/director David Morrissey’s charity, developed to make creative opportunities available to all in the same way that the Everyman Youth Theatre transformed his life as a teenager. We work in areas worldwide damaged by conflict and disasters. On our teachers’ courses we give ordinary people the means to transform their classrooms into inspirational creative playgrounds of learning. Our youth projects give children the opportunity to work with some of the best artists from music, drama, design, movement and filmmaking to find their creative voice. In Lebanon , CAST is the only NGO (Non Government organisation) working in the Gatherings in South Lebanon where there are approximately 95,000 refugees. The British Embassy in Beirut recently described our work as a ‘leading light‘ in the region. In Sri Lanka, we are looking for funding to work with two local NGOs ‘ Rebuilding Sri Lanka and the Abhina Foundation. The project there would renovate disused buildings at the core of a community with IDP (internally displaced people ‘ either through conflict or disaster) and opening it as a CAST community centre. This would hopefully help heal fractured communities through learning creative life skills in a shared space.
