Carleen Anderson

With a host of relatives saturated in the gospel-blues genes, it’s inevitable that Carleen Anderson went on to be the lead singer of the ‘R’n‘B funk band the Brand New Heavies.

You’ll remember the hit dance track Apparently Nothin’ that she had with the Young Disciples and will probably be surprised to know that she hooked up with Paul Weller, who co-produced and co-wrote songs on her Blessed Burden album.

Texan-born Carleen has performed with a variety of contemporary and legendary artists from Brian Ferry and Leon Ware, to Guru and Omar.

Her third solo album Alberta’s GrandDaughter has been recorded independently with another surprise artist, Ben Castle, son of famed British trumpeter, Roy Castle ‘ who will join her at Greenbelt this year.
