Bob Holman survived the London blitz and then failed the eleven plus. Got to university and the new welfare state meant he studied for free. Became a social worker and then academic. Leftt university chair and with his wife started a project in their home in Southdown, Bath. After 10 years moved to Easterhouse Glasgow where  he helped to form a locally-run project.Is now retired(ha ha)and minds two grandsons.Active in Baptist Church. Author of Keir Hardie:Labour’s Greatest Leader? Lion Hudson, 2010. Now writing a life of Studdert Kennedy(Woodbine Willie), chaplain in first world war and campaigner for the poor.
