At age seven he was playing the piano and clarinet and by the age of nine he’d discovered the sax and Deep Purple. Now Ben Castle no longer has to be introduced as the “son of much-loved, Record-Breaking Roy‘¦” But we’ll mention it anyway‘¦
Ben’s guested and toured with virtually every famous musician on the planet. The ones you’d perhaps expect (Sting / Jamie Cullum), and also some surprising choices (Atomic Kitten / Boy George).
Fresh from a gig in Oslo with the exhilarating Matthew Herbert Big Band, Ben’s now gigging with Carleen Anderson to showcase songs from her new album Alberta’s GrandDaughter.
Ben tells us that his own album Blah Street was the 6th biggest selling jazz album of 2004 in Ray’s Jazz Shop, in Foyles.
And another random fact: due to other work commitments he’s recently had to turn down a month’s touring with Westlife. Smart call Ben!
Preparing for the first rough-cut screening of the #GB40 film documentary tonight. Wondering how people will respond. #nervousanticipation
