Animat

Animat have developed a unique approach to live performance which involves creating new soundtracks to some of their favourite films, using a mixture of original material and tracks from their eclectic DJ archive.

At Greenbelt, Animat will be turning their hands to German director Veit Helmer’s award winning dark comedy Tuvalu (1999).

Set in a dilapidated swimming baths and fuelled by dreams of escape to a tropical paradise, Tuvalu is an inspired, quirky and stylish tale which sits somewhere in the tradition of Marc Caro’s ‘Delicatessen’ and Kusturica’s ‘Black Cat, White Cat’.

Downtempo duo Animat is a collaboration between The Only Michael and Soyo, with the voices of Anne Garner, Sanchita Farruque, Lisa Palmer and others.

Animat have been making music together since 2004, a partnership growing out of their work together as DJs in Sheffield’s Sundaze collective. They have produced 3 EPs – Sunshine or Rain, Arctic and Heart Shaped Balloons – and their first full-length album Earplay was released on Big Chill Recordings in August 2008.
