Abimaro

Abimaro is a London based singer songwriter, who has been writing since her youth. After successfully completing a degree in Popular Music Studies at Goldsmiths University, Abimaro was keen to put her training into action. She was chosen to be a lead vocalist on Zero 7’s 2009 world tour, which fuelled Abimaro’s desire to explore writing her own music. This passion to create and own her own sound was shared by two particularly talented young men, James Beatt and Alex Montaque, who have now come to be known as ‘The Free’ in the exciting up and coming ‘Folk-soul’ band Abimaro & The Free.

Most recently in 2012 Abimaro & The Free were funded by the PRSF to write five new songs, and were also funded by The Arts Council to complete a tour of coffee shops in East London, called The Ginger Tea Tour. Both projects were a huge success, with the first show of the five newly commissioned songs called ‘The House My Sister Drew’ selling out! Abimaro currently juggles part time work with Abimaro & The Free, and freelance singing and songwriting teaching in schools in London.
