The Children's Festival is a reflection of the main festival and plan to bring in more artists that can be seen elsewhere around the festival. The children's work is now run and managed for us by Sue and Iain Harvey-Smith, long time Greenbelters, with a real desire to develop the Children's festival both inside and outside the children's area. Working alongside Sue and Iain is a group of experienced and enthusiatic team leaders, who ensure that the programme for each age group is carefully planned and properly resourced.
What do volunteers give to the Children's Festival?
As a volunteer, you will help us run three, two-and-a-half-hour sessions over the course of the weekend:
- Saturday morning
- Saturday afternoon
- Monday morning
In addition, all volunteers are required to do one of the following duties:
- help with registration between 6 & 8.30pm Friday evening
- supervise the activities on the family open day on Sunday afternoon
- clear up on Monday, to include packing the van or taking the equipment off site to storage.
- help with one baby-bathing session between 7 & 9pm (creche team only);
After the morning session, we feed all our Children's Festival volunteers. After the afternoon session we give all volunteers meal vouchers to use at the catering concessions on site. Breakfast is available each day.
You don't have to be a seasoned pro, as every children's volunteer has to attend the induction and training session on the Friday.* (But, of course, if you are a seasoned pro, you can bring that wealth of experience of working with children with you!)
We are especially keen to hear from anyone with SEN qualifications and experience as we are always looking to broaden the accessibility of our children's programme provision.
What do volunteers get in return for their hard work?
- A free weekend ticket to Greenbelt so they can enjoy the festival when they are not on duty
- Lunch on Friday, Saturday and Monday, along with additional meal vouchers which will help towards the cost of other meals
- Reduced partner and children tickets, where applicable
- Fun and laughs to boot
Child Protection and CRB
All workers in the children's area are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Check with the Criminal Records Bureau every 3 festivals. On receipt of your application form (downloadable here), the Greenbelt Child Protection Administrator will send you a CRB check application form to complete if needed. (NB A criminal record does not necessarily bar you from working on the children's team, and cases will be assessed on an individual basis.)
Let us know early
What helps us plan and prepare the best Children's Festival possible is to have our volunteers in place as early in the year as possible. So, please get in touch now and don't leave it until the last minute to register your interest - especially if you don't have a current CRB check.
