Want to be part of the team who put together our brilliant programme, bringing your enthusiasm and expertise to make Greenbelt 2012 a huge success? We have some opportunities for you in this exciting and fulfilling team.

Greenbelt has a staff team of ten who lead some 1,700 volunteers in making the festival happen each year. As part of this large volunteer base, we have a Producer Team who create the programme, alongside the Programme Manager and Programme Administrator. This makes us distinctive in the world of arts festivals.

As a Producer, you will be expected to approach contributors (performers and speakers) about coming to the festival, make bookings, and ensure that they have no problems getting onto site and onto the stage. Onsite you’ll be volunteering alongside a variety of teams including Operations and Commercial, as well as our site production company.

We are looking to find Producers for the following roles:

-        Children and Family Programme
-        Performing Arts Programme
-        Music across the site (DJs, music workshops etc)
-        Site specific programme (including street theatre)
-        Workshops programme
-        Talks workshop programme

We would like you to have knowledge of performers and trends in the area you’ll be producing, you’ll be confident to make contact with key people, have a good eye for detail and be able to communicate with others to deliver the programme.

We’ll provide an introduction to Greenbelt’s database and administrative systems, ongoing support from the Greenbelt team and agreed out-of-pocket expenses. You’ll be part of a creative and diverse team of volunteers and be an integral of making a festival happen.

In order to fulfill this role, you will need to commit up to six Saturdays in January – June for Producer Team meetings, and additional time to produce your own area of the programme.

You’ll be a key part of delivering the programme at the festival and will need to be on site at Cheltenham Racecourse from at least the evening of Thursday 23rd until Tuesday 28th August 2012. Producers will be expected to attend a Producer Team meeting on Saturday 14th January 2012 in Central London, more details will be provided.

Thanks to the enthusiasm of our trusty band of volunteers, most of our teams are now full.

But if you're still wondering whether you should offer your skills at this year's Greenbelt, we still need to fill a few places.

Here's what we need:

• First Aiders –  We still need five first aiders. You must have a first aid at work qualification and will be volunteering alongside nurses and paramedics
• Fire Crew – We need serving and former fire fighters.
• Fire Support Team – to be available from Wednesday before the festival to the Tuesday after to assist with positioning fire breaks and extinguishers
• Campsite Team – information and advice to festival goers on the campsite.
• Pre-festival Stewards – to staff the gates before the festival opens to the public on Greenbelt Friday. Must be available from Tuesday 23rd August.
• Shopper – for the backstage hospitality team. Must be able to act on initiative and have a fair knowledge of the local area

Help 15,000 celebrate communion together in a field in Cheltenham this August

Due to a sudden illness, we're looking for someone to take over the role of our Communion Producer for this year's festival.

The producer’s role is to make our festival communion service happen, working alongside the person / group delivering the service content this year, so that it all runs smoothly.

The good news is, you'll be coming in and taking on the reins at a point where pretty much all the pre-festival work has been done. All the contributors are booked in. All the tricky production stuff is sorted. All the wine and bread is ordered. The service booklet design has been commissioned.

What we're in need of is someone well organised who can come in and look after how all this all comes together onsite.

We've developed a comprehensive role description (click here to download) and the bits we'll need you to focus on – with a small team on volunteers – are:

• preparing all the communion 'kits' onsite ready for the service
• liaising with site production and stewards about the service so that everyone knows what it will involve on the ground
• organising a 'rehearsal' for the main contributors the day before
• organising contributors passes for all contributors, as required
• Plus other tasks…

Today marks the beginning of National Volunteers’ Week. This is an annual event which celebrates the fantastic contribution that millions of volunteers make across the UK. The week plays a huge part in raising the profile of the millions of volunteers who regularly contribute to society, while inspiring others to get involved too.

So we’d like to add our own big ‘thank you’ to the 1700 wonderful volunteers who give their time and their talent to make your festival happen.

Greenbelt volunteers are involved all over the site all weekend – and in the run up to the festival in planning and preparing.

As you may know, all talks at the festival get recorded so you'll never miss out on any of the insight of our marvellous contributors. As a result of this, we need a couple of people to help out in the Greenbelt office getting CDs sent out to people who need them.

Before the festival, we need a couple of people for a day or two in the week beginning Monday 16th August.

After the festival, we need volunteers for two to four days in the week beginning Monday 6th September.

The volunteer role consists of duplicating CDs of Greenbelt talks from master CDs, using our in-office duplicators, labelling them, and dispatching them by post to people who have ordered them. Training will be provided.

We will reimburse travel expenses in the Greater London area for the time you'd be volunteering. All volunteers should be over 18. You may be requested to give the details of two referees.

We reported last week about the Site Vibing Making Week that's currently going on in New Malden, Surrey, and here's another batch of photos from that frenetic cauldron of activity…

For those of you who aren't up to speed, Team Leader Saga Arpino is masterminding the creation of large-scale artworks that will go on the Cheltenham Racecourse site to make it slightly less like a racecourse, and more like a festival. She's overseeing a volunteer team of eight volunteers, each of whom is experienced in art, design or stagecraft.

We've reported previously on Site Vibing Making Days in Leeds and London. Now we're getting down to to the business end of the summer, and a crack team of Site Vibers are currently in the process of making some very beautiful and exciting things in a garden in New Malden, Surrey.

Eight volunteers have travelled from around the country to make things to make the site look pretty. Some of them are staying nearby, and many thanks to YMCA Surbiton for their kind hospitality.

The volunteers include art and theatre design students, given a chance to share their skills with the whole festival community, and the team is masterminded by Saga Arpino. They're using her studio and garden space (and a shipping container of raw materials!) to make large installations for use on stage in the talks venues – decorative hexagons, "Tree of Life" logos, and – of course – our Sideways-Looking bird.

As well as the installations, some new venue signs for Underground, Messy Space, and a new venue – Abide. These will be cut out of huge pieces of plywood and covered in various appropriate materials… just you wait! They're going to look amazing. And if all that wasn't enough, they're making some more ornamental birds to hang in the trees at the Racecourse.

The Media Capture team record video and audio around the site to capture a little bit of the essence of the festival. Using both roving and static film crews, they record and edit all of the videos from the festival in our website's Media section.

If you're interested in helping record Greenbelt 2010 for posterity, they're still looking for the right people for the following key roles:-

PRODUCER – Producers head up the roving film crews, made up of a Producer, Camera Operator and Sound Operator. Producers are vital as they are the liaison between the Media Capture team and the Greenbelt contributors involved in each film, and determine the location, the approach and the scheduling of the filming. Some experience with location filming would be an advantage.

VISION MIXER / DIRECTOR – This year we have a static TV studio which will be visited by the great and good of Greenbelt. Although we aren't broadcasting from the studio, we'd like a Vision Mixer / Director to give us a live mix of each event. You'll have experience with live vision mixing, or live TV directing.

CONTRIBUTOR LIAISON – We're looking for the right person to smooth the links between contributors arriving for filming and our Media Capture crews. Would suit TV runners, ADs, or people looking to do something slightly different with Contributor Liaison skills.

Of course, if you have specialist skills in video, sound recording, or live broadcast, we'd love to hear from you.

Today is the final day of Volunteers' week, so a big thankyou to all of our profiled volunteers.

Whether you're volunteering to use skills you gained in your day job (Pippa Wragg), or volunteering to do something completely different (Ruth Amos), Greenbelt volunteers come away having had a great time, and have sometimes been inspired to do something different with their careers (James Holland, Jez Clark). Volunteering can be literally life-changing!

We hope you found out something of the experience and benefits of volunteering at Greenbelt. We'd love to welcome some new volunteers into our huge range of teams, so if anything has grabbed your interest, or if you have any questions, do get in touch.
