My Greenbelt Five: Nicola Hambridge
We’re asking people for My Greenbelt Five – five things at this year’s Greenbelt that they’re excited about. To see all Greenbelt Fives, click here »
Here are the selections of Nicola Hambridge, who is one of Greenbelt’s seven volunteer Festival Operations Managers…
1. Bruce Cockburn (above)
Since my first Greenbelt in 1989 I’ve been a Cockburn fan – so his return to the festival after a too long gap means that when he’s on I’ve pleaded to definitely not be on duty! Virtuoso guitarist, songwriter extraordinare, humanitarian and campaigner, spiritual seeker and human being, I’m not sure whether I’m looking forwards more to his mainstage set on Friday night or his Q+A on Saturday evening…
Two friends have separately recommended this Scottish newcomer who was many people’s highlight of this year’s Solas. You can’t help getting the feeling that she’s one to watch….
3. Sunday morning Communion
You’ll generally find me at the back of Mainstage field with the blue-light-crew during Communion: this is one of the few times that the volunteer Fire Team get to spend time together, and it’s enormously special for them as well as for me to take part in this massive yet intimate act of worship. Do come and say hello to the Fire Team either at Communion or around the site (unless the blue lights happen to be on of course!)
I doubt I’ll be able to stay and watch – but I just have to pop in to the Big Top see how showing a silent movie late night in the Big Top with all the audience in headphones goes down… I was intrigued when I heard about this early in the planning…
H&S were my new discovery of GB11 and I’m delighted that they’re back for GB12. Expect energy, joy, craziness and always fun times…. Truly independent…
