Flags and Bunting for Greenbelt 2012

Greenbelt’s talented Site Vibing team turn a Racecourse into a place fit for a celebration – and you can take part in the buildup by contributing bunting and flags in advance of the festival…

Once again, Site Vibing co-ordinator Saga Arpino has fabric bundles ready for people to make into bunting and simple flags.

FLAGS

The rainbow of flags now stretches across the Grandstand, but we still need more to fill in the gaps and make it even more impressive. The flags measure 1.2m by 0.8m and need hemming on four edges. The fabric has been pre-cut, so if you have a little time and a sewing machine, this is a simple job. We’re looking for six people to take on forty flags each – it should take about four hours. Email vibing@greenbelt.org.uk if you’re able to help…

BUNTING

Add your contribution to over 1km of bunting hung around the site. We can provide fabric, or if you’d like to source your own, follow this simple pattern – contact vibing@greenbelt.org.uk for more information, tips, and where to send your contribution once it’s made.

If you can sew, but don’t have a sewing machine, and would still like to take part, come into our office and use ours! Let us know when you’re available by emailing vibing@greenbelt.org.uk, and we’ll supply tea, biscuits and travel expenses.

We need all completed flags and bunting to be back with us by Monday 9 July – so get sewing, and thanks again for helping us make our site a wonderful place to be!

I enjoyed doing the flags last year and will look at my diary to think about doing them again, but …….I am an experienced sewing machinist and at my quickest, having worked out a system, I was doing 4 an hour so 4 hours is 16 flags not 40! I think a commercial machine would be needed to go any faster. I did 40 and allowing for getting up to speed they took about 16 hours.
It was great to see them insitue.

Just wondered if you had thought about contacting the Fairtrade Foundation: they had a couple of miles of Fairtrade cotton bunting last year – contributed/decorated by fairtrade supporters throughout the country – and might have some still in their offices. It would be brilliant to intersperse Greenbelt bunting with Fairtrade bunting, and would really fit into the spirit of Greenbelt.
