Daily Diary Download: PDF, iPhone, iPad AND Android

We're pleased to announce that this year's Daily Diary is available to download as a PDF and as an app for iPhone, iPad and Android users.

The PDF version is £3.00. Please note, before purchasing that this document cannot be printed. It's designed to be a sneak preview of what's in store, for those who can't wait. Printed versions of this document will be available onsite with a Festival Guide for £8. To download the Daily Diary as a non-printable PDF visit the greenbelt shop»

The Android app is available from the Android Market »

The iPhone & iPad apps are available via iTunes »

As well as telling you what's happening where and when, both apps will give you details of contributors, news from the Greenbelt blog and an update feature, so you'll be kept up to date of any last minute changes. The apps are £3.99 each.

A huge hat tip to faithful Greenbelters Tony Hoyle (Android), Paul Bennett and James Stewart (iPhone & iPad) for their work developing the apps listed above.

Just been playing about with the Android app.

Lovely. I like the 'Find my tent' option. Might need that this year, camping in a different section in a borrowed tent.

Note: This function will be useful throughout the year for those who keep forgetting where they parked their car!

Does the app give you a reminder when your favourited events are due?

Perhaps for next year a button or menu option to return to the beginning instead of having to keep hitting back to get there?

  • Tony Hoyle says:

I didn't put reminders in.. had a mental image of 300 phones going off in the middle of someones talk! If it's really wanted and it can be done in a way that will avoid that pitfall, I'll put it in.

  • Tony Hoyle says:

Back to start is a good idea.. I'll look at that.

  • Tony Hoyle says:

OK done.. in version 2.10 a long press back will jump directly to the main menu.

    14 August 2011 18:57
  • Afinkawan says:

I see what you mean about the reminders - fair point!

And thanks for the quick response on 'return to start'. Works perfectly.

Sorry if it didn't come across before but this really is a lovely app. It's a shame that more apps aren't as well designed as this one. You've done an absolutely fantastic job here.

By the way - I'm posting this through the 'Greenbelt blog' section of the app!

Brilliant android app - going to be really useful methinks! Thank you very much - a bargain.Won't have to keep searching for my paper version all the time! All I have to do now is try and keep my phone's battery going all weekend..........!

  • Erika Funk says:

I'll only be able to use the app on my phone if Greenbelt is a hot spot. Do you know if this is so?

    15 August 2011 21:36
  • James says:

Thanks, just downloaded app; very polished and a lot easier to browse than paper version.

@Erika I don't think Greenbelt will have a hotspot available to everyone, but the App should work offline.

One small change which would be quite nice (but by no means essential) would be enabling quick alphabetical scrolling on the Contributors list. I'm assuming it is implemented as a ListView using a CursorAdapter; if so according to Stack Overflow this should be a straightforward change:

Love the android app. I now starred enough for 3 greenbelts! Great having the map in there too.
For next year could you add a bit to put in your volunteer shifts? Not essential at all but would also help advertise volunteering.

Any chance of a blackberry app anytime soon?

    17 August 2011 21:53
  • Vicky Tyrrell says:

Hey Erika, there is a wifi hotspot in the Tank Internet Cafe on the ground floor of the Grandstand, freely available to all our customers (and since you're signed up to volunteer at the Tank, you can be assured of a signal, hee hee)
    See you on site x

I've just received an automatic update to the android app and all the favourites I set have been lost. Is there any way of correcting this or have I just got to go through and reset them all? I don't mind doing this, I just don't want to do it if there's likely to be another update soon that does the same thing!
    Thanks

Just bought the android app. It is very good, and great to have a preview of what is going on at Greenbelt this year.
Hope the automatic update doesn't lose my favourites though!
    Thanks

This isn't app speficic (nothing special about downoading any particular app) but try (in order of difficulty, more or less):

    1. Ask a friend who's more used to android to check on your phone. there might be something you missed.
    2. Download over wifi, not 3G - apparently some providers block android market downloads.
    3. Check to see if there's an update to the market on your phone - some older versions used to get 'stuck' sometimes and wouldn't download... of course if your market is stuck then updating it could prove to be a challenge :p
    4. Clear the data/cache for the market (Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/Market

I've seen other suggestions involving factory resets and even installing 3rd party ROMs but wouldn't advise those unless there's no other option.

  • Leanne says:

    Hi Tony,
Any thoughts on the automatic update losing the favourites? Is this common or is it just me?? I've started manually putting them in as favourites again, so hoping it doesn't happen again!
    Thanks xx

It's a bug in android 2.2 that I didn't know about until last week (it deletes the application dato on the SD card when it updates). I've put in a workaround since app version 2.12

If it's working there should be no need at present to update the app if you don't want to - recent updates have been mainly to fix specific issues that people have had.

If a lineup update requires an app update (we're trying to avoid that happening this close to GB) I'll post that on the changelog/app description.

I love this idea but have a Blackberry! Why cater for iPhone and Android but not Blackberry?!?

  • Andrew Debney says:

Love, love, love this app. It has allowed me to plan what I want to see & do before getting there, and will save me carrying round the large paper thing (just need to be able to get the phone charged more often).

And great to see that it supports BunnyBelt as well - find my burrow and dropping a carrot instead of tent & pin, looking for lettice instead of updates. LOL.

Ditto on the Blackberry app request for my poor Brother who will otherwise have to stick to 15th century technology (paper and printing) this year :{.

Can you add the campsite map to the maps or the find my burrow/tent section?

And do the favourites set off a reminder alarm (not been able to find out yet as the first event is not about to kick off)?

    23 August 2011 13:19
  • Leanne says:

Thanks Tony, I have had one automatic update since I put this comment up - I think it was a lineup one actually - and my favourites are still there! Thanks for your reply and for getting it working!

    23 August 2011 14:22
  • Tony says:

Like most things at GB, the apps rely on a supply of willing volunteers - if someone wants to step up and write a blackberry version (or webOs, or Symbian, or WinPhone, or anything else) then it'll happen.

Looks good so far! The only problem I have now is sorting through my favourites to work out which of the items that clash I actually want to go to!

One problem I have found .... I can't use the two finger expand (or zoom) option (I have Android phone - HTC Desire) to read the programme info easily. Unfortunately (for me anyway!) I HAVE to put my glasses on to read stuff .... any ideas?

Brilliant app. Thanks Tony. Had no issues whatsoever and will be very very useful over the weekend. Thank goodness you can change the battery in a lot of Android phones - I have a charged up spare ready.

(Just quick comment on the Blackberry thing - there are now well over double the amount of Android phones being sold compared to Blackberrys so agree it makes sense to start with iphone and android.)

For those worried about battery life on phones/ipads etc, you can drop by the big bible/Codec/12 baskets stand in G-source where there'll be free charging!!
Thanks for the app. I too would love to be able to add volunteer shifts. but it's a pretty great app. looking forward to using the "find my tent" feature!

This is great! I had the problem with the update causing me to lose all my favourites, but I've re-set them all now and it hasn't happened again (I've disabled automatic updating just in case). But it's great to have all this information in advance and in such a handy form on the phone.

    Thanks!

Having trouble getting the PDF diary. Go to checkout, enter username (that I set up last year to buy tickets) and get the message "Sorry, those details don't match our records."

Click on the forgotten password link, enter my email address and get "Sorry, we haven't got that address on file."

No problem, I'll set up a new account. Except I enter my email again and this time, "Email address is already in use."

    Something isn't right...

Hi. Error on app diary. Had two events at the same time in Jerusalem at 15:30. The talk I wanted on already happened at 14:00.
    Very disappointed.
Can I trust the app for the rest of the schedule?
