The Greenbelt Scratch Wind Band and Jazz Orchestra … need you!
This year at Greenbelt we're running not one scratch wind band, but two!
Scratch Wind Band
For one band, we're looking for keen players of all ages and experience to come play – but with Grade 6 as a standard minimum (as some of the repertoire may be quite demanding) through the Grade 8 + players. This band will work with Hilary Dennis, a concerto soloist, principal oboist with the Camerata of London and a member of the Capricorn Wind Quintet. Depending on numbers, the programme may include ‘Puszta’ by Jan van der Roost, Yiddish Dances by Gorb, exerpts form Mussorgsky’s ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’ and film music by the likes of John Williams. We need flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, saxophones and a full range of brass and percussion.
Greenbelt Jazz Orchestra
For the other band, we're looking for accomplished players to work with Scott Stroman, singer, trombonist, composer, conductor, and educator – one of the most versatile and inspiring musicians active in Europe today. Scott directs the London Jazz Orchestra, the Guildhall Jazz Band and Jazz Singers, and London's Eclectic Voices choir. Originally from the USA, he has worked with Dizzy Gillespie, Billy Cobham, Phil Collins, and jazz musicians from around the world. The specially-formed Greenbelt Jazz Orchestra that Scott will work with over the weekend will then play a concert of classic big band works from the bands of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Charlie Parker, Thad Jones, and others in the Centaur venue – early afternoon on Monday.
