Why I’m Excited #13: Africa United

In a continuing series on the blog, we're going to be hearing about parts of the Lineup for 2010 that people are particularly looking forward to. (For all Why I'm Excited posts, click here.)

If there's something on the Greenbelt 2010 programme that you're particularly looking forward to, do email us a paragraph or two saying why, and we'll put it up here on the blog...

Greenbelt trustee Martin Wroe is excited, for many reasons, about the showing of Africa United in the Film programme. Here are ten of them...

Ten Reasons I'm Excited About the Exclusive Preview Screening at Greenbelt 2010 of 'Africa United'.

1. 'Africa United' is coming to Greenbelt two months ahead of its global cinema release. It's a festival scoop.

2. It's about football and it's funny.

3. It's a 3000-mile road-trip taken by a bunch of kids across seven African countries fuelled only by the power of hope and a passion for football.

4. It's about refugees and HIV/AIDS and child soldiers and armed conflict and losing your loved ones and how poverty can trap the best of us.

5. You don't realise any of 4. until after you've finished watching it, which is because of 2.

6. It stars some outstanding young actors who you've never heard of until now.

7. It's a 'family film' that you'll want to take other families along to.

8. It's produced by Pathe, the people behind Slumdog Millionaire, with a screenplay by Rhidian Brook, who has spoken at Greenbelt in the past.

9. It's only being shown once at Greenbelt 2010, straight after the Sunday morning service. In Centaur. (Get there early...)

10.It's about kids, it's about football, it's about Africa and it's funny. (Did I already mention that?)
