Making Your Phone A Little More Methodist
New Greenbelt partners The Methodist Church are a resourceful bunch, and have released their own app for the iPhone. They're the first major British denomination to release their own app, and it probably doesn't need saying, but you don't have to be a Methodist to check it out!
The app offers daily prayers and Bible studies, news, tweets and podcasts from Methodist HQ. The Bible studies come from the popular Word In Time series, featuring a different author every week, with reflections on a daily passage and questions to consider. The app gives you the choice of reading the study on screen, or listening to it as a podcast.
Toby Scott, Director of Communications and Campaigns, said:
“In today’s society our lives are busier, fuller and more distracted than ever before. We hope this app will offer Christians from all backgrounds a little spiritual oasis in the midst of their busy lives. This is only the start for how we’ll use these technologies, but already this is something that people will find useful and inspiring.”
Future versions will add support for Methodist campaigns for justice, and ways to follow the President and Vice President of the Conference throughout their year in office.
It's available for free from the iTunes App Store, and works with the iPhone, iPod touch, and the iPad*, with Android and Blackberry versions on their way! Click here for more information from the Methodist website.
* It's a great way to offset the envy you're creating by having an iPad, you lucky thing.
